Visiting Fellowships









Post-doctoral fellows play a vital role in the research activities of the Quantum Spacetime research group. Our group typically has about 4 visiting fellows (i.e. post-docs) at any time. See here for more about our current visiting fellows. Post-doctoral fellows are also eligible for Infosys fellowships.

Application Procedure


We seek applications from post-doctoral candidates. Applications for prospective visiting fellows are due by December and are reviewed every January. There is also the possibility of a mid year appointment (applications reviewed in June/July each year).  Before taking up her appointment at TIFR, a visiting fellow must either have received a PhD degree or have submitted a thesis to a recognized PhD granting institution. Prospective candidates can apply for the visiting fellowship program by writing to Prof. Nilmani Mathur (nilmani@tifr.res.in) together with 
1.a CV, 
2.list of publications, 
3.a statement of research interests, and 
4.copies of up to 3 (p)reprints (if unavailable in the electronic archives). Candidates should also arrange for three letters of reference to reach Prof. Mathur by November 30 for January selections or by June 30 for mid-year selections. Applications via email are encouraged.

Term of Appointment


Visiting fellow appointments are made for one year, and are usually renewed for a second year. Upon request, visiting fellow appointments may also be reviewed for renewal for a third year. 

Stipend and Accommodation


Visiting fellows receive a monthly honorarium (in the range of Rs. 32,000-40,000 per month). They are also provided with institute accommodation at a nominal rate.
